Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is well-known as a public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a web site which hosts video and commentary looking at the portrayals of female characters in popular culture. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit website that focuses on the representation of women in pop cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to destroying the stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she has also been working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and others online. Sarkeesian who has an MA in the field of Social and Political Thinking at York University, is a popular public speaker. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. As a university student, Sarkeesian became fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women at an early stage. An ambitious woman who wanted to launch a web-series that would examine the representation of gender in video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. She was not deterred by the assault, actually, it just reinforced her drive to become a media critic and feminist. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards to recognize her significant contributions to the world of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She was also the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
