
Ormond was the daughter of Josephine who was a lab technician as well as John Ormond (a stockbroker) located in Epsom, Surrey. Ormond is the second child of five children to her parents. Her early performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. She then attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After one year of art school she was transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art where she was graduated in 1988. Ormond was first seen on British television in 1989's series Traffik. This show focused on the illicit heroin trade across the world, from the far East to Europe. Ormond was the addicted daughter of the lead character, a Home Office minister in the UK government who was involved in fighting heroin imports. The role was her debut and received glowing reviews.
